The Veterans Transition Network Is Coming to the Rock

Specialized mental health services for Veterans in Newfoundland this Spring

St John’s NL, Dec 12, 2018 — The Veterans Transition Network (VTN) is making its way to Newfoundland for the first time in March, bringing valuable support to help Veterans transition from the military to productive and meaningful civilian lives.

The Network’s Veterans Transition Program (VTP) is backed by 20 years of published research and has shown life-altering changes to the mental health, personal relationships, and careers of Veterans, many of whom have never accessed professional help before.

The program will take place an hour outside of St John’s with all expenses, including transportation and accommodation, covered by the VTN.

“I’m so excited to bring our programs to Newfoundland.” says Doug Allen, VTN Atlantic Regional Coordinator and CF Veteran. “Returning home after service and finding oneself isolated from programs and services can be a major barrier to getting care, so being able to bring the Veterans Transition Program to Newfoundland is a real proud and exciting achievement for us. It is so important to bring support services to where Veterans are located.”

Doug Allen, Veterans Transition Network Eastern Canada Coordinator

Doug Allen not only speaks on behalf of the Veterans Transition Network, but also as a Veteran of almost 20 years with PPCLI, and a graduate of the VTP himself. “It was this program that enabled me to break through the barriers of my service, to start to heal, and to realize my potential on civi street.” Now, not only does he work to make the program accessible to Veterans in Atlantic Canada, he is also a trained facilitator for the program. “There is no greater honour for me than to support my fellow Veterans in healing, just as I had once done fighting alongside them in service.”

This December, Doug Allen will be in Newfoundland to talk to Veterans and care providers about the Program.

Space for the upcoming program is limited. To find out more please contact Doug Allen at doug@vtncanada.org.
